The event, themed The World's Fair of Software aims to capture the innovation of other World's Fairs, uniting the brightest minds in software development. As the tenth GitHub Universe, our challenge was to create a look that celebrates this milestone as well as its progressive spirit.
Working hand-in-hand with GitHub's design team, we set out to elevate our previous design elements to a whole new level.
My role was active from early concepts, art direction and design, working with the design and motion teams at BUCK to imagine the visual future of code. ✶2024
To kick off the exploration phase of the project, I organised a workshop filled with exercises and prompts that encouraged the design team to engage with the themes of progress and code.
Throughout the day, we experimented with shapes, colors, gestures, and a variety of materials available on the table, including paper cut-outs, glue, ink, Legos, and play-doh. One particularly intriguing aspect was the incorporation of GitHub's scalable grid, which effectively bridged our physical creativity with the digital realm where the designs would ultimately take shape.
Following the workshop, we transitioned to our computers, armed with inspiration and insights that guided our digital exploration of silhouettes, shapes, and combinations. This collaborative effort ultimately led to what we termed as the Monuments of Progress.
